Our Sustainability Journey
When we launched our first hotel in Phuket, we had a vision of blending hospitality with sustainability. Since then, we have been on a journey, learning from experts, sharing our experiences, and participating in community-based and international efforts.
We have aligned our sustainability ambitions with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while our proprietary Brand for Good framework seeks to unify our brands in efforts to protect the planet and uplift people.
Laguna Phuket (transformed from an abandoned tin mine site) awarded the American Express and International Hotel Association Environmental Award.
Green Imperative Fund introduced to finance environmental action and community-based projects in places where Banyan Tree has a presence.
First resortbased Marine Lab established in the Maldives.
Joined UN Global Compact Network Singapore with co-founder, Claire Chiang, serving as its first president.
First sustainability report published.
Started resource conservation, climate change awareness, and youth mentorship programme.
Banyan Global Foundation established.
Partnered with EarthCheck for sustainability certification.
Launch of ‘for Good’ initiatives across the Group.
