Promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Our Approach

We are committed to fostering a culture of inclusion and championing the importance of diversity—creating opportunities for our associates, guests, and host communities to thrive as their authentic selves.

We ensure our hiring processes are inclusive and equitable, to achieve greater gender balance and include underrepresented groups.

We train and promote associates without discrimination.

Through the Banyan Academy, we equip our associates with the skills to nurture inclusion and advocate for diversity across all levels.

In 2024, women accounted for:

  • 20% of the Board
  • 33% of independent directors
  • 42% of management (supervisor and above)
  • 44% of all associates
  • 33% of all promotions

Creating Opportunities

In 2024, Laguna Lăng Cô offered full scholarships to five underprivileged students from the community around the hotel. The scholarships cover tuition fees, living expenses and accommodation for a two-year intermediate-level culinary training programme. Upon graduation, successful students will be offered employment at Laguna Lăng Cô.

The scholarships not only provide access to higher education and nurture a passion for hospitality, but aim also to help the students to secure stable employment and ultimately develop a pool of local culinary talent for the resort.

Encouraging Inclusion

In partnership with Hope Centre Hue—a local NGO which provides vocational training for people with disabilities and the disadvantaged—Banyan Tree and Angsana Lăng Cô have introduced the Soul Healing Corner, providing an empowering space where artists with disabilities are employed to work in hospitality service.

Reinforcing both social and environmental responsibility, resort guests are invited to participate in cultural bonding activities at the space and learn to create traditional crafts such as handmade keychains and embroidered products made from recycled materials.

Next Steps

In 2025 and beyond, we will enhance our efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion by aligning ourselves with the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles, which provide guidance on empowering women in the workplace and communities:

Principle 1: Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality
Principle 2: Treat all women and men fairly at work—respect and support human rights and non-discrimination
Principle 3: Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all women and men workers
Principle 4: Promote education, training and professional development for women
Principle 5: Implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women
Principle 6: Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy
Principle 7: Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality

Take Climate Action

Climate change has far-reaching impacts on our destinations including on weather conditions, water security, and biodiversity. Because we want a future where everyone can thrive, we are playing our part in making hospitality a low-carbon industry.

Reduce Waste
With global waste projected to increase by 70% by 2050, adopting a circular economy and addressing food loss and waste is a matter of urgency. We strive to minimise the waste our operations generate while maximising composting, recycling and reuse. Being responsible stewards of our destinations, we also support community waste management efforts.
Conserve Water

Water is a precious resource and safeguarding it for local communities is our priority. We are therefore committed to using water efficiently, and capturing and recycling as much of it as we can.

Respect Biodiversity

How we choose our locations, design, build, and operate our business all have the potential to impact nature. We are determined to make our impact a positive one, especially on the land and sea surrounding our hotels and resorts.

Uplift Communities

Our host communities share their culture, craft, and spirit with our guests—so we give back through volunteering, charitable giving, and community programmes that build strong individuals.

Our focus on 3 Es—Education, Engagement, and Employment—helps us maximise our impact on local communities and support disadvantaged groups.

Support Wellbeing and Development

We believe that when our associates are well cared for, they in turn can care for our guests. So we take measures to ensure that our work environment is nurturing, inclusive, and supportive.
