Conserve Water

Conserve Water

Our Approach

Our approach to water conservation is holistic, encompassing infrastructure maintenance, proactive leak detection, increased storage capacity and the reuse of water where feasible.

Guided by a commitment to responsible water stewardship, we aim to manage shared water resources in a way that supports fair access for local communities.

Our Target

We set a target to achieve:

  • 30% of water from recycled or alternative sources by 2030

Our Progress

In 2025, through infrastructure improvements, proactive water management and the increased use of circular water solutions, we were able to achieve:

  • 3.8% of water from recycled or alternative sources

Reducing Our Impact on Potable Water Sources

Across several destinations in China, our hotels are reducing reliance on municipal water by using alternative sources for irrigation and water features.
At Homm Wenzhou Nanxijiang, water discharged from the destination’s natural hot spring is being stored for landscape irrigation, incurring almost no costs to save approximately 120 CBM of water and S$ 93.2 per month.

Rainwater Harvesting at Cassia Phuket

In a destination shaped by monsoon rains and seasonal water stress, Cassia Phuket is capturing and reusing rainwater for non-potable applications such as irrigation and general operations.

The system helps reduce pressure on shared water supplies while integrating water reuse into daily operations without affecting the guest experience.

Investing in Water Efficiency

Our managed hotels in South East Asia began conducting six-monthly water pressure health checks in 2025 to improve system efficiency and reduce unnecessary water loss. At Angsana Zhoushan, water-efficient fixtures introduced at opening also help reduce freshwater consumption in an island destination where water is especially valuable.

Making Every Drop Work Harder, One Wash at a Time

At Laguna Laundry Service in Phuket, a Continuous Batch Washer system reduced water consumption per kilogram of laundry by 75%, delivering a 72% reduction in water costs and an overall 40% reduction in operating costs over a five-month period.

Challenges

We are increasingly managing water-related challenges at destinations around the world:

  • Addressing Local Water Challenges Across a Diverse Portfolio
Managing water responsibly across destinations with varying levels of water risk remains complex as our portfolio continues to grow.
  • Preparing for Climate-related Shocks to Water Resources
Adapting to climate-related water risks, such as droughts and extreme weather, remains a challenge where solutions can be complex and resource-intensive.

Next Steps

In 2026 and beyond, we aim to improve water efficiency, reuse and resilience across our operations through the following priorities:

Scale on-site water solutions — We will expand rainwater harvesting and alternative water sources, including wastewater and greywater reuse, for non-potable applications.
Adopt nature-based water solutions — We will incorporate nature-based solutions into resort design to improve groundwater recharge and reduce runoff.
Prioritise water efficiency projects and initiatives — We will improve water efficiency through targeted upgrades, better system management and guest engagement.
Assess water risks across our portfolio — We will continue assessing water risks across our properties to better protect local water sources and support surrounding communities.
Enhance water-related governance — We will strengthen water management policies and improve performance tracking through enhanced ESG data systems.

Respect Biodiversity

How we choose our locations, design, build, and operate our business all have the potential to impact nature. We are determined to make our impact a positive one, especially on the land and sea surrounding our hotels and resorts.

Uplift Communities

Our host communities share their culture, craft, and spirit with our guests—so we give back through volunteering, charitable giving, and community programmes that build strong individuals.

Our focus on 3 Es—Education, Engagement, and Employment—helps us maximise our impact on local communities and support disadvantaged groups.

Support Wellbeing and Development

We believe that when our associates are well cared for, they in turn can care for our guests. So we take measures to ensure that our work environment is nurturing, inclusive, and supportive.

We are committed to fostering a culture of inclusion and championing the importance of diversity—creating opportunities for our associates, guests, and host communities to thrive as their authentic selves.

Take Climate Action

Climate change has far-reaching impacts on our destinations including on weather conditions, water security, and biodiversity. Because we want a future where everyone can thrive, we are playing our part in making hospitality a low-carbon industry.

Reduce Waste
With global waste projected to increase by 70% by 2050, adopting a circular economy and addressing food loss and waste is a matter of urgency. We strive to minimise the waste our operations generate while maximising composting, recycling and reuse. Being responsible stewards of our destinations, we also support community waste management efforts.
